Thank You To All The Grandparents
Thank You to the Ouma’s (Grannies) and Oupa’s (Grampa’s) all around the world.
Not enough credit is given to grandparents for all the support they give when it comes to our Au-Some kids.
Understanding an autistic child can be overwhelming for most. Grandparents are known for making extra effort. Grandparents ask questions to better understand and they love our children unconditionally.
“ I want to say thank to grandparents, for not only supporting our au-some children, but also loving them the way you do”.
“You have been there from the start”. Whatever and whenever we need anything , you are there to support us.
You love our children as your own, and you are the only ones we trust 100% to always have our children’s best interest at heart. It is the only time; we as parents do not have to worry, not even for a second…………. when “Ouma” and “Oupa” are there we know that you have got things under control.
Look at us……………. you raised us and we turned out……………pretty OK!
You have been there with every celebration, concert, sports day, and the hard-draining times when you know we need an extra set of hands. You have seen us at breaking point, but you did not allow us to break. Instead you came to help. You offered a sleep over, or you took them out for the day. Came and cooked food for the family or came around for a playdate to let us sleep for a bit.
Without us having to ask you know when you are needed. It is as if you can read our mind with our specific parenting requests. You give our kids affirmation by telling them they are beautiful and handsome – along with confirmation of them being strong, intelligent, powerful, funny, creative, kind and amazingly unique.
To all the Grandparents you are basically angels delivered from above. Thank you for everything you do for us. We may be too tired and forget to say thank you at that specific moment, but we do appreciate everything you do.
To the Grandparents who sit and paint with our children for hours on end while making them laugh hysterically – thank you.
To the Grandparents who always bring a thoughtful treat that makes our children’s faces light up immediately – thank you.
To the Grandparents who “accidently” make extra food (we know you cooked extra to help us) and for all the baking you do for our little ones – thank you.
To the Grandparents who get down on the floor with our children and play with them – thank you.
To the Grandparents who tell the best, most elaborate, enthusiastic stories that our little ones are absolutely mesmerized by – thank you.
To the Grandparents who fish, hike, bike and dig with our kids – thank you.
To the Grandparents who teach our children valuable life lessons on everything – thank you.
To the Grandparents who know just what to say and when to say it – thank you.
To the Grandparents who let us shower, sleep or give us free time to go grocery shopping while they occupy the kids – thank you.
To the Grandparents who give endless gifts for no reason – thank you.
To the Grandparents who do school pickup for us – thank you.
To the Grandparents who have paid for things out your own pocket – thank you.
To the Grandparents who is always available to video call whenever our children want them to – thank you.
To the Grandparents who sing songs and know just how to calm our little ones down when we too tired and feel like giving up – thank you.
To the Grandparents who teach our children extra lessons after school – thank you.
To be honest saying thank you can never repay for all that you have done for us and continue to do for us and our Au-Some kids. I feel sad and guilty sometimes for being given a break from parenting, but I will not decline when Granny offer.
To be at our best, we need to recharge. Thank you for allowing us to “re-charge” when we need it the most.
“Only thing I can do for now – at the most basic level but from the bottom of my heart – I want to give the biggest shout out to all the grandparents, we love and appreciate you”.
